Instead of original pieces, look for prints of your favorite works. Prints are less expensive than original works of art. They are easier on your budget, they are easier to transport home and they are easier to hang yourself. Prints are usually made in standard sizes which makes the framing of them easy-you can even do the framing yourself. You can save money on framing by buying a frame that is on sale and framing the print yourself. Going to the frame shop is something you can do in your own time-you don’t have to worry about working around a professional framer’s schedule and, if you buy the frame on sale, you can save quite a lot of money!

Don’t be afraid of empty space. A home that has decorations on every surface can be hard to live in-and it creates more work (think of the dusting!) for the home owner. Give your decorations space!

Using only selected pieces will help those pieces stand out more. When you choose carefully you’ll have more appreciation for the pieces you’ve chosen. When you fill every inch of available space on a wall, it is harder to decide which pieces of art to look at and you won’t be able to enjoy all of them. White space is necessary for the decorating scheme to be complete. All artists will tell you that “white space is good.”

Don’t part with any money without first looking over the item you want to buy. Decorating a home does not have to be expensive. You are not required to dedicate a bunch of time to the task.
